VITAMIN C

Vitamin C is an essential vitamin that is not naturally produced, thus it must be replenished for good health. The main benefit thought to be from taking Vitamin C supplements include, protection against immune system deficiencies, cardiovascular disease and lessening the duration and severity of upper respiratory tract infections. This type of Vitamin C is derived from fermented sorbitol.

Serving Suggestion

It is generally suggested that someone can take up to 1000mg of Vitamin C daily. Although the Australian Gov. Nutrient Reference Value sets the Daily Intake for a healthy adult at 45mg.

Possible Side Effects

Vitamin C is considered non-toxic therefore even in extremely high doses negative side effects rarely if ever occur. If there was to be any side effect it would generally consist of mild symptoms such as, diarrhea or an upset stomach. If any of these effects do occur lower dosage. You should consult a doctor prior to taking Vitamin C if you have any kind of copper deficiency or condition that causes iron deposits to form in the body. This is because if Vitamin C is taken in too higher dose it can possibly cause reduction of coper levels in the body and stimulate the absorption of iron. Pregnant women should not be exceeding 60mg of Vitamin C daily, due to the risk of the child developing scurvy in the womb.

 

ZINC

Zinc is an essential mineral that is believed to have benefits to the immune, reproductive and digestive health. 

Serving Suggestion

When taken as a dietary supplement Zinc is to be taken in dosages of 150 mg up to three times a day. We have only included the minimum effective amount due to festival goers rarely consuming a sufficient amount of food. The maximum recommended dosage would upset ones stomach otherwise.

Possible Side Effects

When serving suggestion are adhered to Zinc Citrate is considered safe. When the daily intake of Zinc is exceeded, it can adverse effects on the body’s capability to absorb iron and copper. Due to this reason it is recommended that when taking Zinc, that you also supplement with copper and iron. Exceeding recommended daily intake of Zinc can affect the body’s absorption of prescription medications and harm the immune system. Therefore recommended dosage should always be followed.

 

L-THEANINE

L- Theanine is an amino acid that is found predominately just in teas. It is believed to promote relaxation without causing sedation which also aids with reducing stress and aiding in sleep. L-Theanine also has antioxidant properties and is thought to promote overall good health. This form of L-Theanine is derived from the tea (Camellia Sinesis) plant. 

Serving Suggestion

L-Theanine can be taken one to three times a day in servings between 100-250 mg.

Possible Side Effects

L-Theanine can cause a drowsiness feeling and deeper sleep. It can also lower blood pressure, therefore for anyone who takes blood pressure medication or has related issues should first consult with a doctor prior to administration. L-Theanine should not be taken by anyone who has diagnosis of kidney or liver disease or by women who are pregnant/ breast feeding.

 

MAGNESIUM

Magnesium is a naturally occurring mineral. Magnesium Gluconate is used as a supplement that aims to maintain adequate magnesium in the body. Magnesium Gluconate is a mineral that is thought to benefit muscle, nerve, heart, bone and joint health and could also improve overall mood.

Serving Suggestion

It is recommended as a dietary supplement to take up to 400 mg of Magnesium Gluconate daily, unless directed otherwise by a doctor. Recommendations from the AUS/NZ Government Nutrient Reference Value state for a total Magnesium intake of 400mg daily. As this Magnesium blend has 5.4% total Magnesium, this means for every 400mg of Magnesium Gluconate it equates to 21.6 mg of total Magnesium. It is recommended for Magnesium to taken in a ratio of 1:2 with Calcium for the best effects to take place.

Possible Side Effects

This supplement is considered safe to consume if the serving suggestion are followed and not exceeded. Exceeding daily intake of magnesium gluconate may result in side effects of indigestion, nausea, respiratory issues, low blood pressure, diarrhea and irregular heartbeat. It is also important to note that taking Magnesium may also decrease the effects of certain antibiotics. If you are currently taking any medications or have kidney problems, you should consult a doctor before taking Magnesium. Always be mindful when taking in conjunction with other supplements, as Magnesium is common and both supplements may potentially contain Magnesium.

Although Magnesium Gluconate has comparatively low Magnesium content when compared to other Magnesium products, it has a much higher bioavailability, therefore it is being absorbed into the body more rapidly and efficiently. 

 

ECHINACEA PURPUREA

Echinacea is a native herb, home to the areas east of the Rocky Mountains and western States in the United State, as well as Canada and Europe. Echinacea was used in traditional medicines within the tribes of the Indian Great Plains. Later settlers saw the benefits of Echinacea Pupurea use and followed with use of it in western medicine, until the discovery of antibiotics whereas its use declined. Echinacea is widely believed and used to fight infections, particularly the common flu and general colds. This is thought to be due to its anti-inflammatory properties. It is also believed that Echinacea can be beneficial to fight other infections, such as urinary tract infections, ear infections and throat infections. Some apply echinacea to their skin to treat boils, wounds and burns. Echinacea has phenols, which have antioxidant properties, which are thought to be beneficial for human health. Echinacea Pupurea also contains alkylamides or alkamides, polysaccharides, glycoproteins and caffeic acid derivataives all of which are thought to enhance and strengthen the immune system.  

Serving Suggestion

It is recommended to take between 400-1,500mg of Echinacea Purpurea, which can be repeated twice daily.

Possible Side Effects

If serving suggestions are followed, echinacea is considered safe for most people to use. Some rare reported side effects of echinacea can consist of nausea, fever, gastrointestinal upset, diarrhoea, dizziness, headache, difficulty sleeping, numbness of the tongue, joint and muscle aches or a disoriented feeling. Echinacea should be avoided by people who are pregnant/ breast feeding, have an inherited tendency toward allergies (atopy) or have any form of auto immune disorder. If you are already taking a medication of any kind you should consult with a doctor prior to administration. 

 

OLIVE LEAF EXTRACT

Olive leaf extract is a supplement that is derived from the olive leaf, which contains bioactive compounds that provide a health and wellness tonic that has many researched health benefits. The extract contains a wide variety of compounds which work synergistically to deliver a multitude of therapeutic actions surrounding immune health, antioxidant activity, antimicrobial effects on the gastrointestinal tract & anti-inflammatory benefits.

Serving Suggestion

Recommended dosage of Olive Leaf Extract varies between studies but mostly sits between 350 - 1000mg. This can be taken over the course of a day or in one dose.

Possible Side Effects

There is only limited scientific data on the possible side effects or long-term safety. One study suggests that possible side effects may include muscle discomfort and headache. People who experience severe or concerning side effects should stop taking the extract and speak to their doctor. It is also not clear whether olive leaf extract can interact with other medications. People who are taking prescription medications should speak to a doctor before taking olive leaf extract.
